If you haven’t met Peter Maguire or read his book Thai Stick: Surfers, Scammers, and the Untold Story of the Marijuana Trade, there is a gaping hole in your cultural toolkit that needs to be filled. He lives in Wilmington, surfs and paddles in Wrightsville Beach and his giving a local glimpse into his new book.

Read Thai Stick. It’s amazing. It’s fascinating to learn about surfer smugglers who funded their endless summers and surf explorations with loads of sticky buds and how the entire trade deteriorated and evolved into a CIA, FBI, mob, IRS and gang world with money and international manhunts. It’s insane and amazing. I loved the book. That said, first, buy the book. Second, go to Annex in Wrightsville Beach and hear Peter speak on Thursday, September 25 at 7pm.

I can’t wait to see what Peter is bringing to the party.  In fact, I’m slightly scared.
