Hydration Week: Drink Mixes

We’re well into Hydration Week here on Distressed Mullet. We’ve given you several hydration pack reviewlets (and there are more to come!)

Today we want to direct you to some drink options. If you’re on a long paddle water is just not going to cut it. You’re going to need some electrolytes in there somewhere.

During the Carolina Cup, KillCliff saved my a$$. I mean I seriously drank three cans of it a day for three or four days.

Here is the StrongRabbit review of KillCliff

I, personally, always use Skratch Labs hydration mix in my Camelbak. You can read some info on that

here

and

here

They have some new formulas and new products that I haven’t tried. They reformulated their everyday mix, and I haven’t had it yet, but I’m sure it will be wonderful. It was recommended to me by Lisa Schell, the Inland Paddler

What are you using for hydration mixes?

  1. The new Skratch Everyday drink mix is great! Very light, yet tasty and perfect for keeping hydrated during our steamy southern summers. They have a very special uber electrolyte mix that has so much data on it and even a warning not to try it unless you meet certain criteria. That level of detail is one of the reasons I really like what Alan Lim’s got going. And since we’re all geared up for SPICE DRINK SEASON, they make an apple cinnamon mix that’s only to be used hot. It’s fantastic!!

  2. I have been a Hammer devotee for years – first for tri, now for SUP racing and endurance. Their Fizz hydration product is tablet-based (so tidy!) , packed with a full spectrum of electrolytes to banish cramping, and pairs well with their gels, bars, and their longcourse fuel Perpetuem. I also really like their HEED product which is caloric and electrolyte-yet free of big sugars and artificial nasties. So many options!

  3. I’ve been using Tailwind since I ran out of my mystery Dutch QuickenCarben. I love it because it doesn’t have any artificial colors or ingredients and has never given me any stomach pain at all. I can’t do stevia or any other sugar substitutes. In those respects Skratch and Tailwind seem similar (I checked both ingredients, and they are almost identical). However, I need a little extra kick and Tailwind has their caffeinated fuel, which I love.
