Monroe Special Olympics

Last weekend Scott, Michael, and Linnea from Florida Special Olympics Monroe County Competed in the 4 mile race at Key West. Scott and Michael became the first Special Olympics athletes to compete in and finish a WPA points race alongside general public athletes. They finished in the middle of the pack.  Linnea finished her race out to the end of the swim zone and then the three of them came back the next day to compete in the Special Olympics race with the rest of the team.

They have been training hard. They’re awesome.

When they were done with the race, they stood at the finish line for hours, handing out medals, cheering the racers on, and bringing joy to the event.
