VestPac sent me a WilsonPac to try this winter! I’ve finally used it enough to be able to write a review!
The WilsonPac has been endorsed by some of the worlds top stand up paddlers (SUPers) as the best hydration pack on the water. The WilsonPac wicks moisture away from your back and chest providing a cooling effect. It is designed to completely drain in seconds, should you decide to take a dip, and the strap positioning makes it perfect for paddle sports. This pack is soft enough to wear over bare skin or a bikini top (if you don’t mind the tan lines), yet strong enough to last a lifetime in the sun and surf.
The chest panel has 2 pockets with security flaps, a key ring holder, and a large zippered pocket to hold all your valuables. Elastic straps adjust to fit any size, and our patented 3D Airmesh design keeps you cool and dry. The back panel holds a 1 liter, BPA free reservoir (included) that is ready to use straight out of the box. The high flow hose and 360 degree bite valve make it easy to take a drink. A plastic clip is also included so you can position the bite valve within easy reach.
Big Change from a Giant CamelBak
What I was using prior to the VestPac was the CamelBak Baja (pictured on the left. WilsonPac on the right). The CamelBak is HUGE. It is great for really long paddles because I can carry all of my food and water. It is not great for paddles of 3-6 miles (at least for me).
Now that I’ve had a chance to use the VestPac, I can say I love it! It feels like I don’t have anything on, basically. 1 liter is enough for me to go for about 2 hours at this point, if I drink a whole bottle of water + electrolytes before and after. (I drink a lot of water!)
Things I like about the VestPac
- Adjustable for a tight fit so that it doesn’t move around and rub sore spots into me.
- Cool mesh does keep me cool where the pack meets my skin.
- Easy to get the bladder in and out of the pack.
- Zipper pocket for keys that is padded to the keys won’t poke me.
There isn’t much I don’t like. I wish it held more water. I might be able to shoehorn a bigger bladder in there.
If you’re looking for a solid, well-made hydration pack that won’t make you feel like you’re wearing a giant life jacket while you paddle, definitely check out the VestPac.
