We caught up with Seychelle Hattingh at the Surf Expo. Seychelle is a Mistral Team Rider, fresh off her SUP 11-city tour win in Holland.
SUP 11-city tour
Approximately 200 participants paddle 220 kilometers (136 miles) in five days through the Friesland, the northern province of Holland, from the water. They pass through “open fields with windmills, cows, and sheep will present itself along the water ways exchanged by eleven historical cities built from 1700 onwards.”
There are two divisions a race and a tour. Each day the people there to paddle and just experience the landscape and challenge start off first. The racers begin a short time later. This helps everyone experience the event together, finishing at a similar time.
Seychelle’s upcoming attempt to break her 24-hour SUP World Record
On December 5th and 6th 2015, Seychelle is going to paddle non-stop for 24 hours in order to break the World Record for longest distance paddled in 24 hours.
Through this effort, Seychelle is raising funds to sponsor athletes that participate in the Special Olympics Florida SUP (Standup Paddle) Team. She is looking for pledges to be made per mile, or if you prefer a single amount can be donated. Her goal is to exceed 100 miles in 24 hours.
Pledges can be made through this non-profit, tax-deductible fundraising site: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/seychelle-hattingh/24hour
Or you can email [email protected] for a printable pledge form that can be filled out and returned with the total amount collected after completion of the 24 hours – depending on number of miles.
All money raised will go directly to Special Olympics Florida Monroe County.
The 24-hour paddle is going to be held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL. It begins at 2:00pm on Saturday December 5th and ends at 2:00pm on Sunday December 6th. The venue will be open to the public during daylight hours. You are invited to come cheer me on or even paddle the course for a lap or two (+- 6 miles)
Other ways you can help: The next Special Olympics Florida event is the SUP invitational in KW on October 18 2015. https://www.facebook.com/events/736264056501980/
“I was born and raised in the Florida Keys and grew up on the water. I have always had a deep connection to the Ocean. As a young adult I was very athletic, playing soccer, volleyball, and running track and field. I always dreamt of being a professional athlete, but thought it was only a pipe dream. I graduated from Coral Shores High School and after a brief stint at college took off on a sailboat to sail around the World. I worked as a professional Yachtsman for 8 years and had the opportunity to travel to many places around the World. I began Standup Paddling in 2010 and moved back to the Florida Keys in 2014 to make SUP into a career. I started teaching SUP lessons and tours at Paddle the Florida Keys and soon began to train and race competitively.
I have practiced Yoga for 12 years and became a certified Yoga instructor in 2014. I teach Yoga classes on the paddleboard in Islamorada as well as in the studio at Key Largo Yoga.
I am passionate about life, health, nutrition, fitness, love, and happiness. I am a Vegan and perpetual student of Holistic Health. I love standup paddling, Yoga, training, travel, and having fun.
Through and dedication I am now a sponsored SUP athlete as well as SUP Yogi currently making my dreams come true one day at a time. I hope to inspire others to do the same. I cannot express enough gratitude for the amazing community that surrounds me friends, family, SUPpers, Yogis, and all my sponsors! I could not do this without your love and support.
