We attended the race last year and it was everything that makes an event special: A great local community, a challenging course, great food, a wonderful cause, and a super-high aloha per square foot ratio. And there’s camping. This year, I’m hoping to go back with my family and our camping gear. The tent farm alone was worth the trip.

What makes your event great? What will paddlers love about coming to your event?
Our hope is to make our event as inclusive, community focused, fun, earth friendly, relaxing, intense and build a sense of ohana throughout the paddling community. You can camp, watch outdoor movies, see gorges and waterfalls, visit Cornell and Ithaca College and check out the Farmers’ Market. Check here for more http://www.cayugalakesupcup.com/#!news/ci08
Can you describe the different races and courses?
6 Mile Elite “Race to the Falls”
Starting at Myers Park, paddle across Cayuga Lake (northwest) to Taughannock State Park. Turn on a buoy and head south to a left turn that has you on a northeast tack to the finish line at Myers Park. Seems simple but depending on weather conditions it can become extremely challenging!
3 Mile Recreation Race
The course will follow in the wake of our Elite racers heading either north or south, depending on the weather. A single bouy turn and you head for home. Weather conditions can make for a fun and challenging race for all!
15 Mile Downwinder – SUNDAY
We will be testing the viability for a longer race with a Sunday downwinder that will run from Long Point State Park to Myers Park. This is not an official race but some transportation will be available and direction of this paddle will be wind dependent!
What kind of paddling settings and conditions will racers face?
Cayuga Lake is 38 miles long and 435 feet deep and should be considered a flatwater event. Weather conditions can make for a very exciting event as it is always changing.
