Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina
Can you describe the different races and courses?
This race is perfect for the inexperienced paddler with little to no experience. The race will consist of paddling one lap around the island and 6-8 fitness challenges on land. Exercises consist of but are not limited to; bea crawls, push-ups, sit-ups, planks, etc.
This race is designed for experienced fitness enthusiasts. The advanced race will include a series of challenges including a weighted run, 2 laps paddling around the island and several fitness challenges per lap on the beach. This race will be tough, as you will be racing against extremely fit competitors. This year the advanced race will be more challenging than ever. We are incorporating CrossFit exercises into the fitness portion of the event!
What kind of paddling settings and conditions will racers face?
Flat water, some current.
Does your event benefit a charity and if so, can you tell us about them?
VA Vigilante, Inc. is a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Our non-profit decides at the end of each event where donation is needed for veterans in the North Carolina Area. Last year donations were sent to R.O.C 4 Vets and Onslow Community Outreach. Onslow Community Outreach is a homeless shelter for all of the homeless community in Eastern North Carolina. They’re currently expanding their shelter and will have 7 times the space for the homeless in Eastern North Carolina, many of which are veterans. And with the help of the community, they intend to greatly expand their services for homeless veterans.
What makes your event great? What will paddlers love about coming to your event?
Paddlers will love our event because it is much different than other SUP races. Our event combines SUP and Fitness for the ultimate challenge! All proceeds made from the event go directly to Onslow Community Outreach to support homeless and disabled veterans. Just by registering each participant is giving back to those who served our country. Also the prizes this year are incredible: 1st Place Advanced: One-week stay in Costa Rica; 1st Place Recreational: Two tickets on a scheduled Port City Brew Bus 3 Brewery Tour.
