One a scale of 1-10, how healthy is the sport?
On a scale of 1-10, how likely will the sport continue to grow in this next year?
Where will we see the growth if any?
Yes, from our perspective there is continued interest in stand up paddle boarding in Seattle and that curiosity is not diminishing.
Do you have any advice for manufacturers?
Keep the amazing designs coming and keep the planet in mind! We love hearing about new advances in sustainable manufacturing in the US.
What kind of paddling settings and conditions are near your shop? Remember – we need all the details!! Make us want to paddle there!
We are less than a mile away from Elliot Bay in Puget Sound. The conditions are calm, salt water with cooler temperatures, around 54F. It’s an amazing playground with many long distance possibilities. Many of our customers and staff tour to neighboring beaches and along the rocky shoreline to explore local monuments/ city skylines and view the array of wildlife we have in the Northwest. Our favorite paddle is across Puget Sound about three miles from the Alki Lighthouse to Blake Island, an intermediate crossing that takes you from an urban bay setting to a remote isle where sittings of eagles, sea lions and other wildlife are common. But if you’re just starting out, relaxing paddles through the Duwamish River or around the corner to Alki Beach are always enjoyable.
What is it about paddling that gets you up in the morning that gets you excited We REALLY want to know!
All kinds! Whether is a morning paddle to see the sun come up behind Seattle’s downtown skyline or a mid-day paddle to the Alki Lighthouse, we know there is always time to get out on the water. We encourage all types of people and skill levels to get out as often as possible and participate in our weekly races, events and gatherings.
Describe your local paddle community. When do you get together and what are they like?
We have a weekly on water demo at our beach rental location, ‘Alki Kayak Tours’ and we organize weekly community races as well as a women’s paddle night.
What local events do you have and what are their dates and locations?
1) Demo Night on the water is every Tuesday from 5pm-7pm – Try new boards on the water before you buy!
2) Ladies Night is every Monday from 5pm-7pm – Meet other paddlers and build local community.
Best piece of SUP advice you give to paddlers?
Take the time to purchase the board that is right for you! Figure out where you want to paddle the most, how often and if you have any personal preferences. This will ultimately make your paddling that much better! Our staff is trained to help you through the process of picking out the paddle board of your dreams.
What are your must-have accessories for every paddler?
A great paddle of course, a comfy personal flotation device and a good pair of water shoes to keep your feet safe and warm. We are really into the new Astral Footwear line of sandals with an optional heel strap for multi-purpose use.
