Lake Austin, Austin, Texas
Can you describe the different races and courses?
This is a fundraising fun paddle on Lake Austin , Austin Tx. Women paddle, men support. 3 1/2 hours of full on water support with distance options out to 11 miles!
What kind of paddling settings and conditions will racers face?
This is a flatwater event, out and back with mile markers placed 1-5, our 11 mile option is “go the extra” distance and touch low water bridge on Lake Austin.
What makes your event great? What will paddlers love about coming to your event?
This event is a fully supported event including breakfast, prearranged rental equipment, after party, raffle, auction and more. Our paddlers love the loving supportive nature of this paddle. The environment is non-judgmental and even brand new paddlers accomplish goals they never imagined. Primarily SUP, but we allow for kayaks or canoes as well (just paddle!)
Will there be any clinics and what are the details?
We are holding some junior jammer clinics to get younger girls out paddling and these dates, sessions are planned over the next few weeks. New paddlers also welcome.
Where can people get paddle gear like Boards, PFDs and Hydration packs?
When registering, people can choose the “rental gear” option. We will arrange board, paddle and PFD , they just have to show up. We have a significant amount of equipment available, however if we run out, we will advise of options to secure local equipment.
Where can people buy groceries?
There is a Randals grocery store at the upper entrance to Steiner Ranch. We will have coffee, fruit, nutrition bars and water available. On water support will have water and fruit available for a quick energy pick me up. Lunch will be served at the after party.
Where can people stay? Do you have a hotel you can recommend and contact info?
The closest is a Holiday inn near Steiner Ranch. There are numerous VRBO and AirBNB very close to the launch site.
What great local restaurants can you recommend?
Rudy’s BBQ is awesome and Lucy’s at Lake Travis has a great atmosphere with amazing fried chicken!
Where is the best coffee in town?
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf on Road 620
Does your event benefit a charity and if so, can you tell us about them?
Our event benefits Foundation 1023 and The Flatwater Foundation. Foundation 1023 supports mental wellness services for First Responders in Colorado and Texas and The Flatwater Foundation supports mental wellness services for families effected by cancer. Our namesake Kristin McLain was a Flight Nurse in Colorado and then later in Texas. She perished in a helicopter accident on April 27th, 2015. Kristin along with her friend Cindy were the original Founders of the Get Out Girl PaddleJam. It is in her honor that we push this event forward with love and connection to take care of those that care for us!
