Foiled Again!
Since my last visit  almost a year ago, the number of foil boards you might strapped on the back of a pick-up truck or in the water here on Maui seems to have increased. The foil looks like a model airplane on a stick or some sort of  large antenna and is attached where the fin would be on a sup board.  It allows paddlers to harness the power of the ocean swell and glide above the surface of the water longer, faster and seemingly effortlessly.  However, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye, and it requires an incredible amount of finesse, and practice.
We caught up with downwind legend Jeremy Riggs working with a foil board in Kahului Harbor.
Pretty soon, we might just see Jeremy bombing down the Maliko Run on one of this rigs – no pun intended.
Big thanks to Jeremy and Mark Raaphorst at SIC for letting us tag along today!
