Jimmy Austin Wins Ozone Kai Wa’a Maui to Molokai

Jimmy Austin Wins M2M OC1 Race

For the third year in a row, Puakea paddler Jimmy Austin won the Ozone Kai Wa’a OC1 Maui to Molokai this past weekend with a time of 2:52:16.95.

Kaihe Chong came in second, with Mario Mausio taking the third place spot.

Lauren Spalding won the women’s elite division posting a time of 3:06:47.97. Andrea Moller and Amy Woodward came in behind Moller to take second and third in the Women’s Elite division.

On the surf ski side of the race, Patrick Dolan took first place, crossing the channel in 2:38:40, with Austin Kiefer and Carter Johnson in the second and third positions. Heather Nelson won the women’s division with a time of 03:23:09.35.  Beata Cseke and  Tania Moohin took second and third.

The race is organized by Maui Paddling Hui and sponsored by Ozone & Kai Wa’a. The 26 miles between the islands is an ideal race course for downwind paddling.
