Catalina Classic Paddleboard Association alerted people hoping to qualify that the race may not happen this year. We spoke to a few sources trying to keep the event going and they confirmed the event was cancelled or in the process of being cancelled. IT’s NOT official yet, but all signs are pointing toward not having this year’s event.
The Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race has been one of those core paddling soul events held each year in Monterey Bay, Capitola Beach, California. The event has been held each year in memory of Santa Cruz Waterman Jay Moriarity.
We were involved in helping set up the registration site, but it looks like things on the ground in Santa Cruz has stalled and the event will not be held this year. We hope it comes back next year as it’s been a bucket list event for us for a great cause, with a great group of paddlers.
