What paddle do you use?

2016 Starboard Bolt S Skinny

Have you changed boards/paddles/equipment since you started? If so, why?

I started out riding the Boardworks Sirena, which was a great board to learn on, but as my paddling improved, a race board fit my needs better. I also started with a 91 sq inch blade and have since decreased my blade size. My shoulders are thanking me.

If you could travel to anywhere in the world to paddle, where would you go?

Not sure where to start! Marble Caves in Patagonia, Hawaii for the M2M, and Antarctica to name a few.

Best piece of SUP advice you’ve ever received?

Grit is more important than gear.

Weirdest thing that’s happened to you while paddling?

Went for a paddle with my friend, Veronica, during extreme low tide. We got stuck in mud and decided to keep trekking through knee high sludge for half a mile instead of turning around. It was quite the workout!

Favorite SUP nutrition? (During races/ during a long haul)

Nuun mango energy hydration, Cran-Razz Clif Shot Bloks, and Honey Stinger Waffles.

Goals for this next year?

Get stronger, faster, and always have fun. Kicking 2017 off with the Graveyard at Carolina Cup.

Favorite post-paddle nosh (snack/beer/recovery drink)

Dark Chocolate Banana Babies 😍

Your favorite non-paddle thing to do.

What piece of SUP gear do you wish someone would invent?

Women’s specific race boards. We don’t just want something pretty, it should be functional for our size too. More than happy to do R&D work 🙂

What’s your biggest challenge with SUP?

Staying injury free. 🙂

What is your proudest moment in a SUP race or event?

A tie between finishing Chattajack 2016 and my first ocean race (where I got my nickname). The SUP community was so encouraging at both events despite the mental struggle. Photo credit: Nick Denny Photography

Tell us about the best friend(s) you made through paddling.

I may be biased, but I think the Annapolis SUP community is the best. My SUP friends have turned into family.

What was your best SUP travel trip?

Rincon, Puerto Rico for the Rincon Beach Boy. (
