Holiday Books We Love

There’s a lot of random down time amongst the frenetic holiday traveling, shopping, family and friends. Here are some books we are currently reading and love.

Fearless: One Woman, One Kayak, One Continent by Joe Glickman

fearlessFearless is about Freya Hoffmeister, a forty-six-year-old former sky diver, gymnast, marksman, and Miss Germany contestant, who paddled alone and unsupported around Australia—a year-long adventure that virtually every expert guaranteed would get her killed. I’m half-way through it and am finding that I’m rationing it. That’s a good sign. She’s hilarious in her arrogance and inspiring in her persistence and true grit. The back and forth between her and Oscar from Epic Kayaks is worth it’s weight in gold and I don’t know either of them.

Red Flags: An Outer Banks Story Paperback by Charlie Ball

It’s 1993. Wesley is 18 and spending the summer working as  lifeguard in the Outer Banks, NC. I read 55% of this book between 1:30 am and 4am last night. It’s definitely a guys book, but any guy that grew up going to the Shore in NJ, MD, NY, VA, or NC. His descriptions are amazing. It brought me back to summers I spent in Cape May, NJ as a teenager. My uncles living a similar Ocean Rescue life. THis is fiction, BTW.
